The FWBO is an ecumenical movement that seeks to put the Buddha’s teaching into practise in a form that is relevant to modern western society. We have more information about the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order (fwbo) and also links to Buddhist centres around the world. Our books range from practical guides to meditation, through philosophical works and children’s stories to direct translations of original texts (sutras or suttas) from the Pali or Sanskrit languages. There are books from particular schools such as Zen or Tibetan Buddhism as well as more general works. Most of our books are available in English from Windhorse Publications. In the catalogue you will find many books by Sangharakshita, the founder of the FWBO. He has a particularly wide perspective over the whole Buddhist tradition because, during the twenty years that he lived in the east, he met teachers from almost all Buddhist schools, especially the Theravada, Chan, Gelugpa and Nyingmapa traditions. His works included in our catalogue expound his point of view of a wide range of themes such as the Tantra, the historical Buddha, the practice of meditation and such formulations of the Teaching (Dharma or Dhamma) as the Noble Eightfold Path. Other well-known authors that you will find on our site are Thich Nhat Hanh, Philip Kapleau, Roshi Robert Aitken and the Dalai Lama.
